11,335 CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM SCOTTISH CHILD PAYMENT IN RENFREWSHIRE

SNP MSP Natalie Don-Innes has welcomed new figures showing that thousands of children across Renfrewshire are benefitting from the Scottish Child Payment - underlining the SNP Scottish Government’s commitment to eradicating child poverty under the leadership of First Minister John Swinney.

At the end of June, 11,335 children in Renfrewshire were receiving the Scottish Child Payment, with 322,125 children supported across Scotland. In the same period, a further 11,775 children in Renfrewshire received help through the Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods payments.

Commenting, Natalie Don-Innes MSP, who represents the Renfrewshire North and West constituency, said:

“The SNP Government has made eradicating child poverty its number one priority - and Scotland is the only part of the UK where child poverty is projected to fall because of government action.

“The Scottish Child Payment is making a real difference for families across Renfrewshire. With over 11,000 children here benefitting, this support is helping parents put food on the table, pay the bills, and ease household pressures.

“Meanwhile, Labour continues to sit on its hands at Westminster, refusing to scrap the cruel two-child benefit cap - one of the biggest drivers of child poverty. In Scotland, the SNP has acted to effectively end that policy from March next year.

“This is the difference an SNP Government makes when decisions are taken here in Scotland. Just imagine how much more we could achieve with the full powers of independence.”
