The SNP has taken a “monumental” step forward in delivering a new approach to disability assistance rooted in compassion, Natalie Don-Innes MSP has said, as Social Security Scotland’s Adult Disability Payment (ADP) is now fully rolled out.
Almost 350,000 disabled people previously receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP) have had their awards successfully transferred to Adult Disability Payment. In Renfrewshire alone, more than 551,000 payments have been made since the benefit was introduced, with £132.6 million paid out to disabled people across Scotland since its launch three years ago.
The full rollout marks the delivery of a new system of disability assistance under Scotland’s social security powers - one designed around dignity, fairness and respect.
Commenting, SNP MSP for Renfrewshire North and West, Natalie Don-Innes, said:
“The transfer to Adult Disability Payment from PIP is a monumental moment for disabled people across Renfrewshire North and West.
“The SNP is committed to providing disability assistance rooted in compassion - and that’s exactly why we will not cut ADP, despite Labour’s cuts at Westminster.
“We will never seek to balance the books on the backs of disabled people. Instead, we are determined to ensure that everyone across the constituency gets the support they are entitled to.
“Disabled people deserve to be treated with dignity, fairness and respect, and that’s exactly what we will continue to deliver.”
